Author: Mark Brown
Subject: e21 blog
Posted: 10 Mar 2010 at 9:51am

Well having recovered from the shock of $30 becoming $123 with postage, I finally got round to fitting the nice new steering rack mounting bushes. The transformation is marked to say the least. I've always preferred the ''feel'' from non PAS e21's and there is even more in the way of feel since fitting these new, firmer bushes. I know they were expensive but they were worth it.
I am trying to obtain a UK supplier should anyone else be interested in a pair to improve the steering of their own e21?

Now I am usually pretty good when it comes to basic maintenance and safety checks but I got a shock yesterday. I last checked my tyres about 4 weeks ago and there was nothing that stood out. However, yesterday I saw this...

I'm lucky to have spotted it before the Police or worse than that, before a blow out or accident. Anyway, I'm off out to get some fresh boots and I'll be checking weekly from now on.

BMW news : New FWD model below 1 Series?

Now, Autocar has confirmed with BMW's chairman, Norbert Reithofe, that an all-new model is coming from the automaker, designed to compete with the recently introduced Audi A1 and built atop the next generation Mini's platform.

However, the unsurprising introduction of a new premium sub-compact won't just be limited to BMW – Reithofer told Autocar that, "We will be extending the BMW and Mini brands into the small car segment with new models and variants." The exec also took pains to differentiate the new Bimmer from the upcoming Mega City EV, saying that this new model is being developed for both front- and all-wheel drive applications, and that the new urban runabout is a separate endeavor.

Combined with the next Mini, due out as early as 2013, the automaker wants to become more than a bit player in the compact class, and in order to keep volumes of scale in check, the new FWD BMW is likely to be built alongside its Mini counterpart in Oxford.

Plans for a revamped 1 Series are also in the works, but the automaker hasn't determined whether the next 1er will be rear- or front-wheel drive. Regardless, the introduction of BMW's first FWD model signals a significant shift, but as long as the brand's patented driving dynamics are present and accounted for, it's hardly the end of the world.

After they were filled with snow there wasn't any magic from good summer doughnuts - and only snow chains were able to help :).

BTW - having second set of alloys with Nokian for winter usage I have to say it's not just safer, but cheaper as well as your rubber has seasonal vacation to rest.

I quite like the things.

I tried to contact the E21 register man about 4 years ago, got no reply.

Someone claiming to be him popped up recently, but has gone quiet again.

He wanted to buy some wheels I have, but I haven't managed to sort the tyre removal yet, so haven't been able to sort that deal. My fault.

Last I heard he was going on holiday for a week, but that was last year i think.

I'll gladly find a way to bring my track e21 to a show - if Nick does Harewood to coincide with Croft again that's guaranteed, going to Gaydon is a bit far, I may end up taking a scruffy track car to Tatton if Jeff will have it. But could the e21 register LEADER please come back out of the woodwork. It's an important anniversary and it needs something to happen.

Jim
